My book review below confronted one of my idiosyncrasies. I can't stand the paper cover that comes on hardback books. When I get a book, the first thing I do is uncover it and throw the cover away. It gets in my way, and I hate the way it feels on my fingers when I read. So there I said it.
When I shot the pic of the book for my review I realized that the front is plain black so I had to open it to the title page.
Another idiosyncrasy is that I regularly check for my wallet by tapping my right back pocket. My slap generally falls on the wallet so it's not that big a deal, but it feels really funny when I don't have it in. And I feel odd sometimes, like people are watching me slap my butt. So there I said that too.

I agree with the book jacket thing. I take them off when I read a book as well. Now, unlike you, I'm to anal to throw them away. I take it off more because it gets in the way while reading, and when I'm done the book and put it back on the shelf, I want it to have the appearance of a good looking book.
As for the wallet thing, whenever I leave work or the house I check my three pockets for my wallet, keys and chapstick. Almost like an OCD habit. You aren't alone.
Same here Ben! I can't stand book covers. In fact, I was able to convince my coworkers at my library to remove all book covers on incoming books and we are systematically removing old book covers. Sometimes the cover has helpful information.. If so, we paste it on the inside cover. Otherwise they end up looking ratty over time. Not to mention that thousands upon thousands of paper-thin book covers adds up to quite a bit of shelf space over time! :) I typically don't remove my own book covers-especially if it's a book that I might want to sell one day (e.g. textbooks, etc.).
I mean... I typically don't "throw away" book covers, but I hate them when I read them!
Ok, here's the thing about the blogosphere... you post your Magnum Opus, and nobody comments. You throw up a post like this, and comments come out of the wood work. :-)

Second, Jim, it's always great to hear from you. I hope you're well. I never thought about the shelf space of book covers, but its a good point. But, I have never sold a book. I probably should, but I have the vain dream about having a library someday.

Ben, I think it is cool when you slap your own butt! LOL! Dude, I am he opposite. That book cover is what makes it look pretty! Take the cover off and it looks like some old funky boring book!
