Core Christology (What we believe about Christ)

Clarence Bauman once asked the following:

"Do you believe somethng about Jesus -- do you believe in Jesus -- do you believe Jesus -- or do you believe what Jesus said?"

This has been a question I've been thinking about lately. The way you answer this question digs right to the root of your Christianity. The way you answer it will determine perspectives of self, others, faith, and knowlege. It even has meaning if you never answer the question.

What's your answer?

I've recently been reminded that it's not enough to "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord" but that you must also "believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead". It is the belief that "justifies" while the confession leads to salvation. (See Romans 10:9,10)

I've always thought it is more important to know Jesus than just believe Jesus. So I suppose I'd ask the questions: Do you know about Jesus? Do you know Jesus? Do you know what Jesus said? I'm not sure how to phrase "do you know in Jesus?"

Matt. 7:21-23 is what comes to mind. Crying 'Lord, Lord', performing miracles, prophesying in His name - isn't the criteria for entry into the kingdom of heaven.

It's about relationship w/Jesus - not knowledge.

Peace.

P.S. I finally figured out how to upload a photo - you need to come by sometime and check it out (the cabin, not the photo).
